Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse – Pregnant Spider-Woman Stirs Controversy With New Teaser Trailer

We’re just a few days leading up to the release of the long-awaited sequel to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

The upcoming Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse features a new cast of Spideys from the Multiverse. Leading up to the film’s release, the makers have begun sharing clips revolving around these last characters.

Recently, we got a brief glimpse at Pavitr Prabhakar aka the Indian Spider-Man, played by Karan Soni. Now, as part of the Mother’s Day celebrations, we have got a new look at Jessica Drew aka Spider-Woman.

Played by Issa Rae, Spider-Woman is one of the new female heroes of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. Not just that, Rae’s character is also pregnant with her child. The film seems to centre around the idea of family, with characters like Jake Johnson’s Peter B. Parker also having a child of his own, Mayday Parker.

The new teaser trailer features Drew alongside Hailee Steinfeld’s Gwen Stacy and Oscar Isaac’s Spider-Man 2099, as they take on the villainous Vulture. Despite carrying a child in her womb, Drew’s character battles Vulture with ease with the help of her motorbike.

The character’s antics in the teaser trailer have sparked a conversation about the realism going out the window. Mind you, this is a film series, where we saw a talking pig with the powers of a spider.

Despite the complaints of many, several fans of the character have showcased their love for Jessica Drew, as she gears up for her big screen debut when Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse arrives in theatres on June 2, 2023.
