The Spider-Man franchise has been growing tremendously in recent times, with expanded universes spanning across several platforms. 2023 has been a big year for Spidey as we have already received the latest instalment to the animated Spider-Verse series in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. Moreover, players are also anticipating the release of Insomniac’s Marvel Spider-Man 2, which is scheduled to release for the PlayStation 5 later this year.
Through the expanding universes, we have also got to learn about Sony’s other Spider-Man movies that are schedule to arrive in the near future. We know that Kraven the Hunter starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson is scheduled to arrive on 6 October 2023. Furthermore, a Madame Web movie starring Dakota Johnson and Sydney Sweeney will release later on February 16, 2024. However, there is a third Spider-Man movie in the works, that we have heard close to nothing about.
The movie in question is Spider-Man: El Muerto, and the only details we know about this one is that it is scheduled to release on January 12, 2024 and it will feature Bad Bunny as the lead. But fans have been worried as they have not yet received an official release date update from Sony. Fortunately for the fans, the Film & Television Industry Alliance website (via Screenrant) has provided them with a much need update.
Through the update it has been revealed that Spider-Man: El Muerto will begin filming from August 7, 2023. We have also received a summary for the upcoming film. This movie will explore the story of a wrestler that comes in contact with a mystical mask which gives him super powers. The wrestler in question is none other than the man who fought Spider-Man in the charity wrestling match, where Spidey came on top with a narrow victory.
However, despite the excitement surrounding the start of filming, fans might want to brace for disappointment soon, as the film doesn’t have enough time to meet its current release date. So, expect to see a postponement for the film in the near future.
