Sony carved out two dates in the coming years for a couple of untitled Marvel movies – so you can let the speculation begin.
One, labeled “untitled Sony/Marvel,” is dated for Nov. 8, 2024, while another, “untitled Sony/Marvel live-action,” is set for June 27, 2025. It’s worth noting that the former wasn’t specifically noted to be live-action like the latter was – could this mean Sony’s plotting more animated movies after their Spider-Verse trilogy?
The 2024 movie currently has no competition on that Nov. 8 date (although Gladiator 2 is scheduled to come out on Nov. 22), while the 2025 date would be competing with Disney’s live-action Moana.
There are any number of Spidey stories that these could be alluding to; Venom 3, for example, doesn’t yet have a release date, although star Juno Temple recently said filming would start “very, very soon,” so 2024 feels realistic for that barring delays amid the ongoing writers’ strike.
There are a number of movies in Sony’s Spider-Man universe that already have release dates, including Kraven the Hunter (Oct. 6, 2023); Bad Bunny’s El Muerto (Jan. 12, 2024); Madame Web (Feb. 16, 2024); and Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse (March 29, 2024).
Plus, there are all kinds of Spidey projects at least in early development at Sony. There’s Spider-Man 4, which Kevin Feige said in February that the writers have a story for (although it’s on hold in solidarity with the writers’ strike), and producer Amy Pascal recently told THR that there are “a lot of movies to make about Miles and a lot of movies to make about Peter.”
There’s also been speculation about a live-action Miles Morales film and an animated Gwen Stacy movie, but they haven’t been confirmed as of yet (Pascal recently told Variety “you’ll see all of it” when asked about those projects).
Sony has been building out this cinematic universe for quite some time, though, and amid Across the Spider-Verse’s continued success at the box office – it only took it 12 days to make as much money as its predecessor did through its entire run – it’s little surprise the company continues to invest heavily in it.
