The Sonic franchise continues to break its own records, with recent film and video game projects.
The latest to join the category of record-breakers is Sonic Frontiers, which has now sold over 3.5 million copies since its release on November 8, 2022. This makes it the highest-selling 3D Sonic game of all time.
(I know I said I wouldn’t talk about Sonic, but I haven’t seen anyone talk about this.)

Details about Sonic Frontiers’ record-breaking feat were revealed by the company at the Sega & Rovio Press conference. For those unfamiliar with the acquisition, Sega bought the Angry Birds maker for $776 million last month.
Sonic Frontiers became the biggest-selling 3D game of the iconic franchise after eclipsing the record posted by 2003’s Sonic Heroes. Despite having commercial success, the game has received mixed reviews so far, with critics complaining about its combat and technical issues.
The blue hedgehog seems to have an exciting future ahead. This includes plans for a third Sonic the Hedgehog film, which is scheduled to release on December 20, 2024. There’s also a Knuckles spin-off TV series in the works. When it comes to Sonic Frontiers, the devs recently released a new DLC featuring new playable characters in Knuckles, Tails, and more.
