Pre-Match Analysis:
Sri Lanka has gone with a relatively more experienced squad for this tournament that features former ODI skipper Dimuth Karunaratne however there is no place for Angelo Matthews. As usual, Dasun Shanaka will be leading the troops. Young prodigy Matheesha Pathirana kept his place in the squad following his ODI debut against Afghanistan earlier this month. The batting department is well-oiled till No.7 with Dasun Shanaka, Wanindu Hasaranga, and Dhananjaya de Silva serving as all-rounders. Dushmantha Chameera, Lahiru Kumara, Chamika Karunaratne, and Matheesha Pathirana form the pace unit. Maheesh Theekshana is going to be the lead spinner for them. They won their previous bilateral ODI series against Afghanistan 2-1 hopeful of carrying the same form into this competition.
UAE’s preparations for this marquee event didn’t go their way as they got thrashed 3-0 in the hands of West Indies at Sharjah. They got bitter-sweet results in the warm-up matches where they again lost to West Indies by 114 runs and sealed a thrilling 3-wicket win over Nepal. Opening batter Muhammad Waseem will lead the side that includes experienced campaigners Rohan Mustafa, Asif Khan, and Zahoor Khan. UAE are still yet to establish themselves in the International arena and needs to show their potential to the cricketing world through this Qualifying event.
