Simon’s weekly wrap: What’s a holiday without power?

Good news out of Transnet is rare, but chatting to Earle Peters from Transnet Port Terminals, in charge of the Durban harbour, we found some. The Agribulk terminal had its best year in a decade, shipping over a million tons through the facility. In part due to improved crop yields but also to improvements at the port.

Spear Reit CEO Quintin Rossi presented a tough set of results, but the advantage of being focused on Cape Town (with a new development in George) is working. Office remains a challenge, but retail is doing well, and rental reversions are almost positive, with a new building in Paarden Eiland offering great value.

While chatting with Dis-Chem CFO and CEO designate Rui Morais he pointed out that customer numbers remained steady albeit with trips now more clustered around pay day. Their move into baby is doing well and medical insurance is a great offering as they are already the country’s largest pharmaceutical group by number of stores.
