Simon’s weekly wrap: Progress and predictions

Current results are all about the impact of load shedding and I spoke with Spear Reit CEO Quintin Rossi on how it is managing. He points out that you can only do so much with renewable energy, but Spear is fortunate to only have buildings in Cape Town and the city is making really progress to solve the issue (read the transcript).

Grindrod published a strong set of annual results and I spoke with Jimmy Moyaha about them. He points out that it is benefiting from a failing Transnet and that having won customers it’ll be hard for the state-owned entity to ever win them back.

Last week SA was greylisted and I spoke with Sean Sanders of Revix on the impact on the financial sector. We also touched on Cathie Woods’ bullish prediction for Bitcoin which she predicts could be US$1.48million by 2030 (read the transcript).

I often chat with Wandile Sihlobo, chief economist at Agbiz, and this week we discussed the livestock industry. It was a great insight to a sector that is hugely important to our economy and many smaller rural farmers.
