Sanam Johar, who will be seen in the anthology ‘Dhappa’ on Hungama Play, talks about the show and the OTT boom

What response are you getting for the series Dhappa?

I have been appreciated for the kind of performance I have given in the show. All I can say is that I am pretty blessed to be a part of this series.

What made you choose the character and how much do you relate to it?

I am actually from Delhi. It’s not a small town, but where I lived was quite like chup chup ke pyar. So, I relate to the character.

Do you think the audiences will connect to your character?

I think people in small cities can really relate to what happens with the character. Recently, a fan shared with me how something similar happened to him. His girlfriend got pregnant and it was a little difficult for the family to understand, but they are eventually happily married now.

Being a dancer and choreographer, how easy or difficult it is to act on screen?

I think whatever compliments I am receiving for the role, the entire credit goes to our director and producer Anil V Kum sir. He was so patient with me and humble.

What’s your take on OTT as a platform?

OTT has brought reality out in the open, what we can’t show in movies or on TV can be shown now. OTT is real. It could be right or wrong for some people, but that is reality. Also, OTT has provided major opportunities to actors, seniors as well as newcomers.

As an actor, which genre do you feel works best on this platform?

I think every genre works best on this platform because whatever side we are trying to show in that story, it all comes out very real.

What kind of characters are you open to exploring on OTT medium?

I am not scared to play any kind of character, be it a goon or a simple guy next-door or a funny person. I think I should be able to play any kind of role.

What do you have to say to aspiring actors?

There’s always a struggle in whatever profession you choose. I have heard Amitabh Bachchan say that he still struggles. So, I think struggle is for life. Just say focused and keep working hard.
