Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy 4 Classic launched; take on Apple Watch with Google’s might – Times of India

Samsung Galaxy Watch4 and Galaxy Watch4 Classic are now official. At its Galaxy Unpacked Event 2021, the South Korean tech giant has expanded its wearable lineup with the launch of Galaxy Watch 4 duo. The USP of these latest smartwatches is that they run on the Wear OS that the company has co-developed with Google.

Galaxy Watch4 and Galaxy Watch4 Classic are available for pre-order in select markets starting on August 11, with retail availability starting August 27.

The Galaxy Watch4 has been priced starting at $249.99 for Bluetooth versions and $299.99 for LTE models. As for the Galaxy Watch4 Classic, its price will start at $349.99 for Bluetooth versions and $399.99 for LTE models.

The latest Galaxy smartwatches come with BioActive Sensor, which according to the company is a 3-in-1 sensor that uses a single chip to precisely run three health sensors — Optical Heart Rate, Electrical Heart and Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis. This means that this sensor will be able to make the Galaxy 4 series monitor blood pressure, detect irregular heartbeat and measure blood oxygen level.
The smartwatches also come with support to measure Body Composition measurement tool gives users a deeper understanding of their general health and fitness, with key measurements like skeletal muscle, basal metabolic rate, body water and body fat percentage.
Other than this, the smartwatches are also able to track calorie counts and sleep patterns as well.
Software-wise, the Galaxy Watch 4 smartwatches are running on the company’s new One UI Watch, which is based on Google’s wearOS instead of the company’s Tizen OS. With One UI Watch, Samsung says that compatible apps get automatically installed on the watch when they are downloaded on the phone.
With this OS, users will get support for popular Google apps like Google Maps and Samsung apps Samsung Pay, SmartThings and Bixby.
In terms of hardware, Samsung has equipped the smartwatches with Exynos W920 SoC and paired it with 1.5GB RAM. The wearables also pack 16GB of onboard storage. The display of the 40mm Galaxy Watch 4 and 42mm Galaxy Watch 4 Classic is a 1.2-inch AMOLED screen with a 396×396 pixels resolution. Whereas, the Galaxy Watch 4 44mm and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic 46mm, offer a 1.4-inch (450×450 pixels) AMOLED display.
The battery of the 40mm Galaxy Watch 4 and 42mm Galaxy Watch 4 Classic pack 247mAh battery. On the other hand, the 44mm Galaxy Watch 4 and 46mm Galaxy Watch 4 Classic pack a 361mAh battery.
