Sachin Tendulkar ‘inspects’ BKC academy | Cricket News – Times of India

MUMBAI: The infighting within the Mumbai Cricket Association continues. On Monday, MCA treasurer Jagdish Achrekar alleged that secretary Sanjay Naik had the MCA’s revamped Sharad Pawar indoor Academy at BKC inaugurated by batting legend Sachin Tendulkar, in the presence of a few ex-cricketers, without informing him or a few Apex Council members.
“I wasn’t informed about it. I don’t want to rake up a controversy, but this can’t be treated as the official inauguration of the academy,” Achrekar told TOI.
“I had just come to BKC to watch the Harris Shield semifinal with Apex Council members Abhay Hadap, Kaushik Godbole and Ajinkya Naik. None of us four knew about this,” he added.
Sanjay Naik, though, denied the charges. “There was no inauguration of the academy. It was just an inspection, which was recommended by Tendulkar himself. The academy was inaugurated 12 years back, so where does the question of inauguration come from? I had informed Apex Council member Nadim Memon, who is in-charge of the indoor academy’s entire revamp, and Amit Dani (Apex Council) member. The MCA president (Vijay Patil) knows about it. He’s currently in Dharamshala. There is still 7-8 days to go before the academy will be resumed,” Naik told TOI.
Clarifying the whole episode, a source close to Tendulkar said: “Tendulkar had suggested to the MCA that the indoor academy at BKC’s surface be redone, so that cricketers benefit from it. When the work on the surface was completed, Sanjay Naik requested Tendulkar to come and have a look at the place and meet the person who has done the work. Since it was first time anyone was seeing the surface, he was requested to break a coconut on the occasion. There was no inauguration ceremony organized by the MCA for the indoor academy.”
“MCA general manager Kinjal Patel called me on Sunday evening and told me that the secretary has informed me to tell you that Sachin will visit the academy. As the Apex Council as authorized me to see the revamp of the MCA’s indoor academy, so I was informed about it,” Memon said.
Also present on the occasion were the MCA’s Cricket Improvement Committee chairman Jatin Paranjape and Mumbai chief selector Salil Ankola.
