Ryan Reynolds has signed a deal with S4C, the Welsh-language TV broadcaster, to provide a six-hour programming block on his Maximum Effort channel via Fubo each week.
Maximum Effort is arbitraging the demand for Welsh-language TV shows by launching a weekly content block dubbed “Welsh Wednesdays,” starting June 28, with programmes such as Bang, Petrol Head, Red Wall, Gareth Bale: Living the Dream, Wrexham Our Club, and Vets.
“As many have noted, there is an alarming lack of Welsh content available for American viewing pleasure. That stops today. Well, actually Wednesdays,” Reynolds said, per FuboTV. “We’re so grateful to S4C for helping bring Welsh programming to a broader audience. And to that broader audience, don’t worry, I am told there will be subtitles.”
“Ryan Reynolds is our adopted Welshman and his respect, understanding and commitment to Wrexham and Wales is unquestionable,” added S4C Chief Content Officer Llinos Griffin-Williams. “Welsh Wednesdays is an exciting new long-term partnership and we are thrilled to be working with the Maximum Effort channel and Fubo on this commercial output deal.”
The Maximum Effort channel officially launched on Fubo on June 20 with a mix of licensed and original content, including Bedtime Stories with Ryan starring Reynolds as the narrator of a whole host of new and classic bedtime stories to soothe your mind and soul (and also his own).
When Reynolds isn’t spinning yarns to stir up a slumber, you can find him on screen in a variety of roles or producing movies under his Maximum Effort banner. Those include Deadpool 2, Free Guy, The Adam Project, Spirited, and the upcoming R-rated MCU movie Deadpool 3.
On the business side of things, Reynolds holds an ownership stake in Mint Mobile and is the co-owner of Welsh football club Wrexham AFC along with Rob McElhenny. A documentary following the purchase of the struggling soccer club premiered on Disney+ last year.
