Russia-Ukraine Crisis: Riot Postpones Valorant Champions Tour EMEA Challengers Week 3 Games

The Russian invasion of Ukraine has caused a lot of tension in the geo-political world, and it seems like the crisis has seeped over to the Esports world as well.

Earlier today, Riot Games announced the postponement upcoming week of matches in the 2022 VCT EMEA. Following two weeks of epic gameplay between some of the top teams in the world, it seems like players will have to wait some time for the action to continue.

In a statement released by the popular developers, Riot Games revealed that the schedule was being pushed a bit “to support the players, casters, staff and fans affected by the escalating crisis in Ukraine.”

While the developers didn’t issue a new schedule, Riot did note that it will arrive sooner than later, and updates about the tournament’s future will arrive on their various social media channels in the coming days.

It makes sense why Riot will be rescheduling the EMEA tournament, as many of the teams will be competing from their country in this online tournament. Some of the players competing in the event hail from regions affected by this crisis, which includes both Russia and Ukraine.

On the other hand, CS: GO’s biggest tournament in the IEM Katowice will continue as planned with the LAN event taking place in Poland. The event contains some of the game’s most popular teams, which includes the Ukraine-based Natus Vincere and star player s1mple.

However, the event organizers in the world of Valorant and CS: GO have been constantly monitoring the situation, and both events are at a risk of further delays and even cancellations.
