Restaurant Employee Gets Paid In A Bucket of 5 Cent Coins; Twitter Is Enraged

We have heard stories of excellent camaraderie between employees and employers, and we have also known of tales where the relationship has been rebellious. But how often do we come across a bizarre incident where the employer chose to torment the employee just because they resigned from the workplace? This is what happened with Rian Keogh, an employee of Alfies, a Dublin-based restaurant, who decided to quit the job. But his ordeal began soon after he put in his papers.

Keogh had to run around for quite some time for the final payment to be settled. When he finally received it, (believe it or not), he found that he had been paid the entire settlement money in 5 cent coins.

Keogh shared a picture of a bucket of mayonnaise that had been filled with 5 cent coins on his Twitter profile.

In multiple screenshots, he also shared his conversation with the owner of the restaurant. The restaurant owner said that even though Keogh had received the payslip, he wanted to pay him in cash and not through bank transfer. In another text, he wrote that the money was at the door of the restaurant, and Keogh should come and pick it up.

Keogh also posted a shot of the bucket, which weighed 29.8 kilograms.

Soon, comments began pouring in from various quarters, with many users sharing their concerns on such behavior by the employer.

A user commented, “There are so many good employers other there, why would you put up with this. Report, report, report to the proper authorities – not Twitter. Don’t let others have to go through the same.”

Another person said that he would address the issue his own way – he would book a table at the restaurant and cancel it at the last minute to show protest for the “disgusting treatment” of their employee. “I’m first to do it and before the do-gooders start the only way to treat contempt is to react,” added the user.

“An employer shouldn’t sink to those petty levels,” read another tweet.

One other user said that anybody visiting the restaurant, “should pay for their drinks in coins like this going forward”.

Till now, the tweet has racked up more than 13.7k likes and it has been retweeted over 1,700 times.
