Resident Evil 2 and 3 Remakes for PC Don’t Have Ray Tracing Now: Report

Resident Evil 2 and 3 Remakes have reportedly removed ray tracing in the PC version with their latest update. Players have reported this change, as the news comes in shortly after the launch of Resident Evil 4 Remake earlier last month.

However, speculations are now on as to why would Capcom introduce this change so quietly and suddenly.

The removal of ray tracing from Resident Evil 2 Remake (2019) and Resident Evil 3 Remake (2020) has been pointed out by players starting last week, shortly after Capcom rolled out the latest updates for the game. RE players have since then been discussing the changes on various social media platforms like Reddit and the Steam discussion page.

A Redditor with the username pmc64 has started a thread on r/pcgaming titled “Capcom removed raytracing from Resident Evil 2 and 3” to discuss the issue. It has been mentioned here that the games still support DirectX 12, but the “raytracing options are missing.” Also, Dolby Atmos for headphones is also reportedly missing for Resident Evil 3.

As users speculate what could have possibly led Capcom to remove ray tracing from these two games, some others wonder if it was a mistake on the developers’ part. More so because users also claim that the console versions still have ray tracing options.

At the time of writing, Capcom is yet to address the issue. Players, on the other hand, are confused and annoyed at what seemingly is the removal of one of the major selling points for the remakes.
