Hades is known for rarely leaving his subterranean domain. So his presence in the tournament of Valhalla comes as a surprise. But the eldest son of Cronus has his reasons for facing the mortal champions. Though often portrayed as a sinister figure, Hades is driven by love and the instinct to protect, much like the humans he opposes. This piece will explore everything.

Hades Is A Caring Elder Brother

Hades, Poseidon Record of Ragnarok chapter 62 manga

As the eldest brother of Zeus and Poseidon, Hades has long shouldered the duty of shielding his younger siblings. Though his methods are severe, his aim is to preserve the order and power of the Gods in the face of turmoil. When the Titans sought to overthrow the rule of the Olympian gods, Hades, the oldest of his siblings but often the quietest, played a pivotal role in ensuring their defeat.

He wasn’t one to throw himself into arguments or bask in attention, yet his silence didn’t mean indifference; Hades carried a strength that was as immense as it was unexpected. While Zeus hurled thunderbolts and Poseidon crashed massive waves, Hades quietly descended into the depths of Tartarus to cut off the Titans’ reinforcements. Trusting in the righteousness of the gods’ cause over the primordial forces of chaos, Hades systematically bound the entire Titan army in unbreakable chains forged within the Underworld’s furnaces.

After this historic victory, Hades committed himself to governing the realm of hell so that such wars could never shake the cosmos again. Though often feared and misunderstood by others, Hades never seeks to correct his image. His relationship with his brother Poseidon was complex. And he believed that Poseidon was far better than him. That’s why he wanted to seek revenge against humans who killed the only one who was worthy of being called a God.

Powers

Hades Record of Ragnarok charging ahead with his Bident

Völundr acts like a special power to create divine weapons, but Hades also has a trick up his sleeve. His blood acts like a battery. When his blood spills on any weapon, it’s upgraded with the help of his life force. The weapon can also evolve into something more majestic. However, there is a drawback. Like a battery, his life force drains significantly and may even cost Hades his life. Unlike Poseidon’s Trident, Hades mainly uses a bident which is double-pronged.

As he projects the weapon skyward, he channels the forces of physics into the two-pronged bident and thrusts it down toward his adversary. Simultaneously, the swift motion of his jab disturbs the surrounding atmosphere, causing an abrupt shift in air pressure. Additionally, he can use his bident like a driller. The swift rotation of the bident in his grasp induces a vortex of air around it. This is similar to the principle of lift that allows airplanes to ascend, but here it’s used offensively.

The rotational motion of the bident disturbs the air particles, creating a tightly coiled cyclone of wind around the weapon. In another tactical display, Hades harnesses the physics of levers and the concept of mechanical advantage. Here, the bident acts as a lever, and his arm, the fulcrum, is an illustration of simple machines at work in combat. The effect is a two-handed strike so powerful that it breaches the defenses of Qin Shi Huang, overcoming his formidable Heavenly Hand of Defense. His moves aren’t simply attacks but an elegant dance of science.

Does Hades Win?

Unfortunately, Hades doesn’t win against Qin Shi Huang in the seventh tournament. Hades demonstrates immense power, even injuring Qin several times. And it seemed like he had the upper hand near the end of their fight. However, Qin’s unique ability to perceive and disrupt the flow of Qi in his opponents turns the tide. He also, despite Hades’ ultimate weapon, the ‘Four Blooded Spear of Destiny – Ichor Desmos,’ uses strategic moves to deflect Hades’ attacks.

In the final clash, Qin breaks Hades’ weapon and slays him, leading to Hades’ noble acceptance of defeat and an unexpected victory for humanity. This is the third consecutive time humanity will score against the Gods. However, Hades regrets that he couldn’t keep his vow of protecting his brothers. Qin gives his respect, and thanks Hades for fighting him. Hades also notes that Qin is much like Poseidon and finally acknowledges him as a King before passing away. His death shook Valhalla, and certainly, there are more twists to come.
