Recent updates for the Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 remakes have removed ray tracing on Steam. Likewise, Dolby Atmos is no longer available in Resident Evil 3.
It’s unknown why Capcom removed these features across each game, but some players believe it was a mistake on the developer’s part. As spotted by Eurogamer, some users took to Reddit to discuss the update, with one Redditor sharing a thread that generated traction over the weekend.
“The games got [an] update last night,” the user wrote. “They are still DirectX 12 but ray tracing options are missing. Dolby Atmos for headphones is gone from RE3.”
One user chimed in and said it’s possible this was an oversight on Capcom’s part, but also mentioned that ray tracing could have been removed due to “too much technical effort,” just like what happened to FPS game Boundary.
On the Steam Discussion page for Resident Evil 3, a user wrote, “I just looked at the graphics settings and it’s just gone and I am running the DX12 Version of the game so that’s not the issue,” in reference to ray tracing’s removal from the game.
It’s unknown if Capcom will make an official announcement about the recent updates on Steam.
