PlayStation has been gradually bringing its exclusive games to PC, but recent releases have been facing performance problems since launch. The latest title, Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, is also experiencing issues.
According to AMD Software’s release notes as spotted by HardwareTimes (via PCGamer), players using certain AMD GPUs may encounter crashes or driver timeouts when playing with “Ray-Tracing and Dynamic Resolution Scaling” enabled in the game. The problem has been identified in the Radeon RX 7900 XTX specifically.
This is a concerning issue, as even AMD’s most powerful GPU is unable to handle ray tracing in Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart. It’s puzzling because the game showcases ray-tracing abilities effortlessly on the PS5, but not on AMD’s most advanced GPU. Currently, players can only wait for a solution from AMD’s side and play Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart without enabling ray tracing in the meantime.
Moreover, Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart on AMD GPUs is facing issues not only with ray tracing but also with AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution framerate upscaling technology. A user on the r/Amd subreddit pointed out that the game is using an older version of FSR (2.1) despite the newer FSR 2.2 being released almost half a year ago.
While Insomniac may not be solely responsible for this, some users speculate that the developers might not have had access to FSR 2.2 during the game’s development, leading to optimisation problems. With these issues combined, it becomes a glaring concern for many players, and it is hoped that AMD will provide a fix soon.
