The financially crunched Punjabi University had decided to give this special reappear chance to its former students who can reappear for a semester or part of their course or class that did not comprise any practical exams. To avail of this special chance, the candidate will have to pay Rs 50,000 along with the examination and admission fees.
Similarly, those students who failed to pass their exams earlier during reappear or ‘improvement’ can get a special reappear chance for two papers in a maximum of two semesters. The candidate will have to pay Rs 40,000.
A special chance has also been given to those students who according to UGC rules could not avail of their class or course degree for not qualifying the ‘Environment & road safety awareness exam and Drug Abuse’ exam. The candidate will have to pay Rs 2500 to reappear and qualify for the ‘Environment & road safety exam and Drug Abuse’ exams. In all, besides the fee for ‘special chance’, the candidate will also have to pay the examination fee and admission fee.
This special chance is only for external written examinations and is not offered to the former students of M.Phil and PhD. The students who got failed or reappear in their internal examinations could also not apply for this special chance.
“We have decided to give a special reappear chance to the students who, in the past, had failed to get a degree for their course or class for either having missed or failed to clear their examination/s and also missed to avail or failed in their chance for ‘improvement’ or ‘reappear’ in accordance with the university rules. Earlier, the fee for reappear or improvement under special chance after 2000 batch was Rs 35000 but now it has been raised to Rs 40,000. The current syllabus will be applicable for the candidates who want to appear under this new special chance. The old syllabus will be applicable only for those exams that are not part of the current syllabus. The ‘Odd and Even’ examination rule will be applicable under which reappear examinations for Semester 1, 3 and 5 are held in December and for Semester 2, 4 and 6 in the month of May. According to the Supreme Court ruling, it is mandatory for the students from the 2010 batch to qualify for the ‘Environment and road safety exam and ‘drug abuse’ exams”, said Punjabi University Examination Controller JIS Khattar.
