From conducting prelims to sending mock exams and counselling frantic callers to school office numbers, the teachers and principals are ensuring that they have a healthy mind amid the delay in decisions.
At Sanskriti Group of Schools, a constant dialogue with parents and students is being sought to keep all stakeholders informed. Trustee Praneet Mungli said, “Students are concerned about the prevailing uncertainty. Whilst academic rigour is important, it is even more important for the school and parents to ensure that the emotional and mental health of students is safeguarded. We need to give them the confidence via a detailed plan about how the system is taking a balanced decision to protect both their health and future learning.”
Students who contact schools informally are clearly affected by a great deal of anxiety. Among the many doubts they have is how to revise without knowing when the exams would be held at all.
Principal of Riverdale International Patam Shoghi said, “We try to boost their morale. The school has kept itself at the disposal of its Grade 12 students who can connect with anybody in school. Any decision, in addition to safeguarding students’ health and well-being, should also consider the requirements of their future studies.”
Kavita Sahay Kerawalla, vice-chairperson at VIBGYOR Group of Schools said it is equally important to address the tremendous anxiety they are experiencing about their future.
“It is critical to design a safe and transparent methodology to assess them for selection to colleges for higher education. Designing and conducting an online assessment for respective streams could be one solution,” she said.
