Yakuza Series Producer Masayoshi Yokoyama Answers Kurohyo Ryu Ga Gotoku Fans Asking for Remakes

On the April 29 talk show, starting the 32.15 time stamp (archive is Premium accounts only), Masayoshi Yokoyama said they have no plans regarding Kurohyo Ryu Ga Gotoku at the moment. However, he pointed out how the original games were released on PlayStation Portable and how there are many remakes and remasters being released nowadays. Masayoshi Yokoyama mentioned it would be interesting if they could remake the games with current technology.

More on the Yakuza Series

The Kurohyo games are a duology released on PSP in 2010 and 2012 exclusively in Japan. These were spinoffs to the Yakuza series, and most notably got their own live-action adaptation on TV. The games are being fan translated as well.

The first game, Kurohyo Ryu Ga Gotoku Shinsho deals with the story of protagonist Tatsuya Ukyo and how he gets involved with the Tojo clan. The second game, Kurohyo Ryu Ga Gotoku Ashura, ends his story. Seeing these never left Japan, it’d be great if we could get remakes with worldwide releases. But only time will tell if it will actually happen. At the very least the series was not forgotten.

Masayoshi Yokoyama is the executive producer and director of Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, following the departure of Toshihiro Nagoshi, who left Sega in 2021.

Yakuza 8/Ryu Ga Gotoku 8 was first officially announced by Sega and Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio in December 2020, but no visuals or trailer were revealed yet. Masayoshi Yokoyama also shared an update on the game, read more here.
