Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown to Feature Exciting Eye of the Wanderer Screenshot Feature

The Metroidvania genre can be a painstaking affair, when it comes to remembering locations during exploration.

However, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown aims to provide solution such problems through its accessibility options. In a recent blog post featuring Senior Game Designer at Ubisoft Montpellier, Rémi Boutin, the studio shared more details about these features.

The most notable of them all is called The Eye of the Wanderer. The feature allows players to take a screenshot, and pin it to the map as a visual reminder.

Boutin explained the importance of this feature. He initially noted that exploration has a ton of challenges that devs have to face in these types of games. “Ensuring players can feel the thrill of free exploration without the frustration of feeling lost was a strong area of focus for us from the very start of development,” he said.

“The genre is quite dependent on being able to “take mental notes”, remembering and visualizing things like blocked paths, or situations that need tools or powers that you don’t have,” Boutin further said. “We know that can be a barrier for some players, so to assist with this the Eye of the Wanderer feature allows you to take a screenshot and pin it to the map as a visual reminder.”

Boutin also revealed that Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown also has an optional guided mode, which shows objectives and blocked/available paths.

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown releases for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and Windows PC on January 18, 2024.
