‘Pregnant’ Lady in China Caught Smuggling Over 200 CPUs and 9 iPhones Under Her Prosthetic Stomach

It’s not quite common to see travelers smuggle contraband of various kinds using quirky methods. However, one “pregnant” lady seems to have taken it to another level, when it comes to smuggling Intel CPU processors and iPhones.

According to a report from mydrivers (via HotHardware), a pregnant lady identified as ‘Zhao’ was caught by Chinese authorities for smuggling electronic goods in the Gongbei Port of Zhuhai, Guangdong, when she was on her way from Macau.

The authorities caught her, when a customs officer at the port found her appearance suspicious. When questioned by the officer, Zhao responded by saying that she was around five months along. However, judging by the appearance of her stomach, Zhao seemed like she could be well into her third trimester.

Due to Zhao’s dodgy responses and appearance, the customs officer pulled her aside for further questioning. During a search done on the “pregnant” lady, authorities found Zhao wearing a silicon prosthetic stomach, which was attached to her waist.

The prosthetic helped the woman hide 202 Intel Alder Lake CPU processors and 9 iPhones as contraband. It’s unclear why Zhao thought to use this method, as security checks done using X-ray scanning machines would have easily helped custom officials realize that the “pregnant” woman was carrying contraband and not a baby in the first place.

Zhao currently faces hefty fines and potential jail time for her attempts to smuggle electronic goods.
