MBW’s World Leaders interview series – in which we profile top executives working outside the US and UK markets – has quickly become essential reading for the global music industry.
Today (May 11) we’re pleased to confirm that music licensing company PPL will support the World Leaders series going forward.
The World Leaders series produces priority content for MBW and our audience. It will continue to be regularly delivered to our 60K-plus email subscribers, in addition to the 350k-plus users visiting our website each month.
“The World Leaders series plays an important role in recognising the talented individuals that contribute to this worldwide business, and PPL is proud to support it.”
Peter Leathem, PPL
Peter Leathem, CEO of PPL, said: “The music industry is truly global and PPL is helping performers and recording rightsholders make the most of this with an international neighbouring rights service powered by best-in-class data and technology and expert teams.
“The World Leaders series plays an important role in recognising the talented individuals that contribute to this worldwide business, and PPL is proud to support it.”
UK-based PPL has good reason to support a series that shines a light on territories outside the Anglo-American markets. It collects rather a lot of money from around the world and then pays it out to artists, labels, and non-featured performers.
In 2019, for example, PPL collected £86.7 million (around $122 million) from markets outside of the UK. It currently has agreements with 105 CMOs around the world, supporting the flow of royalties back to performers and recording rightsholders.
These collections make a significant difference to the lives of both UK and non-UK performers, recording rightsholders and musicians – not least during a pandemic – and will continue to long into the future.
Since 2015, PPL’s total revenue payouts have surpassed £1 billion.Music Business Worldwide
