Ever since the beginning of the Pokemon games, every generation has seen certain Gimmicks that make the generations stand out from one another. Whether it’s Gigantamaxing your Pokemon or Mega Evolving them, gimmicks have become a welcomed part of Pokemon.
Scarlet and Violet introduced the idea of Tera-Types and Terastallization. This allows your Pokemon to change its Typing to another Type for a short amount of time. The gimmick comes with the addition of Tera Shards.
What Are Tera Shards?
Tera Shards are items that allow your Pokemon to change its Tera-Type. Considering any Pokemon can have any Tera-Type, chances are you’ll need to farm from Tera Shards to ensure you can make your Pokemon the Tera-Type you want.
How To Find Tera Shards
Tera Shards can be found when you battle Terastallized Pokemon. This is by far the easiest way to obtain these shards. You also have a very small possibility of finding them on the ground or get them for completing the Academy Ace Tournament.
The wild Pokemon that you can find throughout the map who are Terastallized can drop Tera Shards of the Tera-Type that they are. However, you cannot be sure what Tera-Type a Pokemon has until you’re in battle with it.
The easiest and most effective way to find these shards is by battling in Tera Raids. The Tera Shards that drop will correspond with whatever Tera-Type the raid Pokemon is. Depending on the Star Level, you will receive different amounts of Tera Shards after each battle. The 7 Star Tera-Raid Battles do not always have the same drop rates for shards, however, they do drop off of them as well.

How To Use Tera Shards
Using Tera Shards is a useful and easy thing to do. The only requirement you must meet is that you must defeat the Normal-Type Gym in Medali that is run by Larry. Once you defeat Larry, you’ll gain access to the Treasure Eatery Restaurant in Medali.
The Treasure Eatery Restaurant is the same restaurant that you have your Gym battle in. Once you have defeated Larry, you can go talk to the chef inside the restaurant. You will need to give him 50 Tera-Shards of whatever Tera-Type you want. Once you give him the shards, he will cook up a special recipe, and you can select whatever Pokemon you want to change the Tera-Type of. After that, you’ll have a Pokemon with a new Tera-Type.
