The outrage against Niantic has since then been exponentially growing. To the extent that users and fans are now surmising on the internet that this anger was deliberately incited on Niantic’s part. Remote Raids in Pokemon Go allowed players to challenge monsters in gyms to win rewards, without the need to move around. It came up and instantly became very popular during the pandemic turning out to be an accessibility feature. As Niantic now makes it more difficult for players to access raids by putting a cap on the number of Raid Passes that you can possess a day, and a price hike, fans have taken to the internet to express their anger.

The changes to Remote Raid were long anticipated due to the leaks about an upcoming price hike to 150 Pokecoins. However, the latest update rates every Remote Raid pass at 195 Pokecoins, acting as an even bigger blow to players than they expected. Naturally, this caused users to be disappointed with the devs as expressed on the internet with its release.

Fans have now taken their outrage a step further. They claim that the developers are only ‘haggling’ with the new price as they intend to bring them down later and come off as the good guys. A Redditor by the username ‘u/Horror_Ad_2920’ writes “They knew there’d be an outrage with this change, no matter the price change.”. The datamining community, Pokeminers reportedly also found evidence of Niantic planning to eventually reduce the prices, even before the release of Friday’s update.

Users plan mass boycott of Pokemon GO

Over the past couple of days, users have been highlighting how this move comes as a slap in the face of the Pokemon Go community. The update makes it an inconvenience to people with disabilities and those who live in remote areas where gyms aren’t as abundantly available.

Users have even called for the mass boycott of the game and other products of Niantic on April 6. Some of these threads have already been removed by moderators, while some others remain active. While jacked up prices may come as a move from Niantic to adapt to the post-pandemic world, the Pokemon Go community is clearly not convinced.
