Cases of pneumonia are on the rise in the city despite sizzling temperatures. Even swine flu cases have been reported in the past 10 days with a high positivity rate of 16.5 per cent. Dedicated COVID RUHS Hospital has also witnessed a rise in pneumonia cases. In most of the cases, the patients with pneumonia tested negative for COVID..
“We have 35 patients with pneumonia admitted to the hospital in the past few days. There is a rise in pneumonia cases. Out of those, eight tested positive for COVID, while the rest have tested negative. We are trying to find what kind of pneumonia it is by conducting respiratory panel, but that has also not given us a clear picture,” said Dr Ajit Singh, superintendent, RUHS Hospital.
Unlike the third wave, the current spike (post third wave) in COVID cases has seen severity and complication. “Patients with COVID have high HRCT score, which shows that their lungs have got involved. The good thing is that the number of such cases is not much,” said Dr Singh.
Apart from COVID and other pneumonia cases, cases of swine flu have also been reported. In 10 days, the state reported 40 cases of swine flu, said a senior health department. From January 1 to May 7, the state had reported 16 swine flu cases, but now the cases have increased to 56. Out of 40 cases reported in 10 days, 33 cases were reported from Jaipur.
Doctors are now suspecting patients with respiratory problems as swine flu cases. In Jaipur, only 25 samples were tested for swine flu from January 1 to May 7. But in the past 10 days, doctors have conducted 200 tests in Jaipur, out of those 33 have tested positive for swine flu, with a positivity rate of 16.5 per cent.
