pixel watch: Google Pixel Watch battery details tipped online: Here’s what to expect – Times of India

Google teased the Pixel Watch among other devices at the recently concluded I/O 2022 developers meet that was held last month. Previous reports shared some key Pixel Watch specs like the chip and health sensors. According to a new report by 9to5Google, some details about the battery life of Google’s first smartwatch. The report suggests that the upcoming smartwatch from the tech giant has a battery capacity of just under 300mAh and is said to last up to a day on a single charge. Currently, this is the estimate that Google has at this stage in the pre-release life cycle which might also change before launch. However, the report didn’t mention under what conditions the battery life will be what Google expects. The Pixel Watch was tested with the always-on display (AOD) and if the feature is enabled it might drain the battery faster. Moreover, it remains unknown if the company has incorporated sleep tracking into the predicted battery life. Later on, Google is likely to reveal if a full charge will allow users to keep the watch on all-day and then track sleeping without needing to charge until after they have woken up.
Comparing Google Pixel Watch’s battery life with other smartwatches
The battery life of the upcoming Google smartwatch is very similar to what other smartwatches with Wear OS have to offer. The battery life of the Pixel Watch also matches that of the Fossil Gen 6, claims the report. Samsung’s 40mm Galaxy Watch 4 packs a 247mAh battery unit and the company claims 40-hours of battery life for the wearable. However, the report suggests that this smartwatch from Samsung also goes on for about a day and not more. On the contrary, the bigger 44mm Galaxy Watch 4 seemed to consistently hit Samsung’s 40-hour claim, mentions the report. Meanwhile, Apple claims only 18-hour of battery life for the Apple Watch when counting a one-hour workout, however, most users are offered better endurance.
Comparing Google Pixel Watch’s charging time with other smartwatches
As per the report, the Pixel Watch might not offer fast charging particularly through its magnetic to USB-C cable. Google smartwatch’s charging speed is nowhere near to what Apple delivers with its latest offering, the Apple Watch Series 7. Apple’s smartwatch uses a 20W adapter that claims to deliver 0-80 per cent in about 45 minutes and 0–100 per cent in 75 minutes over USB-C. Meanwhile, the Fossil Gen 6 packs a 300mAh battery unit also and claims to get up to 80 per cent charge in almost 30 minutes. The report suggests that the Pixel Watch’s estimated time to get fully charged is “just not fast enough,” as it takes nearly 110 minutes to get a full battery, just like the Galaxy Watch 4.
The report also mentions that the battery life and charging speed estimates for the Pixel Watch are not very impressive and the company might change them before launch. Battery life has always been a sore point for Android-based smartwatches and Google is expected to lead the Wear OS market on this particular specification. The report also hopes that Google has been conservative with its usage estimates and expects that the upcoming Pixel Watch will offer a full 24 hours, or even longer.
