Pikmin 4: Every Pikmin Type, Explained

Pikmin 4 is a strategy game where players will need to strategize their moves based on what Pikmin they have available to them. Pikmin are small aliens that resemble plants of some sort and can be found on the planet that Captain Olimar has crash-landed on.

Each of these different types comes with its own characteristics, abilities, and looks, making each type of Pikmin extremely unique. You’ll want to understand each type if you’re going to play the game. Here’s each type and what they do.

Blue Pikmin

Blue Pikmin are extremely useful and a requirement if you are traveling in a location that is underwater. The Blue Pikmin are resistant to water attacks and are the only Pikmins that can survive swimming in water (besides Ice Pikmin). They will be the Pikmin you use if you need to transport items across the water. These are great during the Serene Shores area of the game.

Glow Pikmin

The Glow Pikmin are a special type of Pikmin and are a new addition to the Pikmin family. You can only encounter them when you go on Night Expeditions, and they cannot be brought out during the day. They are ghost-like Pikmin, which also allows them to float. They are extremely strong against anything and glow brightly, making it easy to see them.

Ice Pikmin

Ice Pikmin are another new addition to the Pikmin family. They are able to freeze water, making it easily traversable for all other Pikmin types. They can also freeze enemies allowing other Pikmin more opportunities to strike. Overall, they are a great addition to your Pikmin team.

Purple Pikmin

Purple Pikmin are the strongest Pikmin. One purple Pikmin is equal to 10 regular Pikmins. They are able to easily lift items that require multiple Pikmin to lift. They can also easily do massive amounts of damage to enemies. If you throw one at an enemy, it will be stunned. Unfortunately, to even these Pikmin out, they are much slower than their counterparts.

Red Pikmin

Red Pikmin are seen as the default Pikmin. They are the first that you will encounter, and they will be the basis for learning how Pikmin and their Onions work. They are able to resist fire and fire attacks, making them ideal to walk through any flames you find. They are also stronger than most Pikmin, though not by much.

Rock Pikmin

Rock Pikmin have the strongest defense out of any of the Pikmin in the game. They can be stabbed, slammed, scratched, and stepped on without much damage taken. They are a great addition to a team. They also are able to get through the crystal walls around the game pretty easily.

White Pikmin

White Pikmin are the fastest Pikmin in the game. However, they are also the weakest in the game. Their specialty is that they are able to release a poisonous attack, and they are resistant to poison. They are perfect to use against poisonous or small enemies.

Winged Pikmin

Winged Pikmin are some of the best in the game. They are the only ones that have the ability to fly. This makes transporting items a breeze. They are able to fly over any obstacles and make it back to the base in record time. They are also the best Pikmin to deploy against flying enemies.

Yellow Pikmin

Yellow Pikmin are the last type of Pikmin on the list. They are resistant to electricity which means they are the perfect ones to send in if there is an electric current blocking your path. They also have longer ears, allowing the player to throw them much higher than other Pikmin.
