One thing you can do is look for the many different easter eggs that the development team left in the game for players to find. These easter eggs are amazing references to Nintendo’s past and certainly make players feel nostalgic. Here are the best in the game.
10
Super Nintendo Mouse
During your time collecting Treasure in the game, chances are you’re going to find some pretty well-known items. This is especially true if you are a long-time Nintendo fan. One time that you may come across is called the Creativity Conduit.
This item is actually the mouse that was made popular for the Super Nintendo. The item can be found in the Primordial Thicket (a post-game area) inside the Subterranean Swarm area of this region. You can have your Pikmin carry it back to the base.
9
Game Boy Games
There are two Game Boy games that can be found in the game as well. These games are both Treasure items found in different areas of the map. The games are called Masterpiece Plank and Spinning Memories Plank.
The Masterpiece Plank is actually a version of the game Shin Onigashima. This one can be found in the Blossoming Arcadia inside the cave known as Sightless Passage. The Spinning Memories Plank is a version of the game Kuru Kuru Kururin and is located within Hero’s Hideaway.
8
Game Boy Micro
The next item on this list is another Treasure item that can be found in the game. It is another item that fans were extremely excited to see in the game. The game labels it as a Micromanagement Station.
This is actually the Game Boy Micro, and it can be found within the Sightless Passage. This is the same cave in the Blossoming Arcadia that the Masterpiece Plank (Shin Onigashima) can be found within.
7
GameCube Controller
The GameCube is another console that received some love within the Pikmin universe. You are able to find an item known as the Winged Freedom Sculpture. (You can also find the Glinty Circular Disc, another callback to the GameCube.)
The Winged Freedom Sculpture is actually a GambeCube controller. In order to find this, you must beat the game and unlock the area known as Giant’s Hearth. This Treasure can be found in the Ultimate Testing Range in that area of the map.
6
Nintendo Switch Joy-Cons
The addition of this set of easter eggs was very fitting for the game. Two other Treasures that you can find within the game are called the Telekinesis Detector and the Connection Detector, and they are brilliant.
These two items are, of course, Nintendo Switch Joy-Cons. The left one (Telekinesis Detector) is also found in the Ultimate Testing Range in Giant’s Hearth. The right one (Connection Detector) is found in the cave known as Cavern for a King, which is located within the Primordial Thicket.
5
Nintendo Entertainment System
This next one is something that long-time Nintendo fans recognized right away and loved. This piece of Treasure is called the Life Controller, and it can be found much later in the game (but before you complete it).
This is the controller for the Nintendo Entertainment System. It can be found within Doppelganger’s Den, which is an underground cave that is located within Hero’s Hideaway, the last stage in the game.
4
Mechanical Harp Songs
There are three Treasures scattered throughout the game that the Pikmin can find. They are called the Mechanical Harp (Lullabies), the Mechanical Harp (Memory Song), and the Mechanical Harp (Windmills).
These items play songs from past Nintendo games. The Lullabies one plays “Piranha Plant’s Lullaby” from Mario and can be found in the Cavern for a King. The Memory Song one plays the main theme from Pikmin 3 and can be found in the Blossoming Arcadia. Finally, the Windmills song plays “Song of Storms” from Zelda and can be found in Hero’s Hideaway.
3
Pikmin Singing
One easter egg that only long-time fans of the Pikmin series will notice is the addition of the Pikmin singing. Any time that you are out and about with your Pikmin, you have a chance of them singing and humming certain songs.
As many players have pointed out, these songs that the Pikmin sing are from previous Pikmin games. So, if you are walking about and suddenly feel nostalgic, you may be hearing a song from one of the older games.
2
Game Boy Advance SP
The next item on the list made a huge splash during the Pikmin 4 trailer and demo. This is also one of the first easter eggs that you will encounter within the game. The name of it is the Stone of Advancement.
This is actually a Game Boy Advance SP, and it is probably the most well-known of all the easter eggs. It is impossible to miss this item. You will find it during the tutorial in the Rescue Command Post area of the Sun-Speckled Terrace.
1
Nintendogs Puzzle
The best easter egg in the game has to do with the many Memory Fragments found all over the game. When you first find one, it is obvious that it is a puzzle piece; however, you may think that that is all those Treasures are.
If you collect all 12 pieces in the game, you will be greeted with a sweet surprise. The puzzle pieces actually fit together to form a Nintendogs puzzle. Since this is a game that many players want to see on the Nintendo Switch, it was a welcomed surprise for many.
