Parents irked as some schools hit pause button on online classes – Times of India

BHOPAL: The online-offline tussle between parents and some schools doesn’t seem to log off.

Parents are irked over erratic online classes of certain schools, and insistence on offline classes, without any government order. A prominent school had stopped online classes for three days after a blunt ‘offline-only’ mesaage, verbally during e-class. After opposition by parents, it is resuming online classes from Saturday.

When TOI contacted the DEO Bhopal, Nitin Saxena, with specific instances, he reiterated that there is no order from the state government to discontinue online classes.
The father of a child studying in a girls’ school said they were shocked when online classes stopped abruptly. “They sent messages this evening that online classes will resume. I can’t understand why schools are creating such confusion. They should continue both online and offline classes and let parents decide whether to send their children,” he said

Some schools are conducting online classes at their whim, say parents. “They sometimes conduct online and sometimes they do not. My daughter is not attending offline classes. She is so confused that she is not able to focus. I have paid the full fees but the school insists that I send her for offline classes,” said another parent, Amrita Sisodiya.

A parent uirged the district administration to make it clear that there are no instructions for discontinuing online classes. “When there were no instructions from the state government how can schools unilaterally decide to discontinue online classes? Schools are taking the name of the government and there were no such instructions,” said a parent, Avni Ghosh.

When TOI contacted these schools, they all blamed ‘technical problems’.

“The state government has not issued any instructions to stop online classes. If any school is doing this, the school education department will inquire into it. The department is yet to review the situation to take a final decision,” said DEO Saxena.

Few parents have even decided to meet the school principals next week about the issue. “We can’t send our children before their vaccination. We will talk to the principal and object to being forced this way send children for offline classes,” said a parent, Vineet Upadhyay.

That said, there are indeed several schools that are seamlessly managing both offline and online education, leaving parents to take the call.
