Panels formed to finalise modalities for Assam boards results – Times of India

GUWAHATI: The Assam government on Saturday notified two high-powered committees under former Dibrugarh University vice-chancellor, Alok Buragohain, and Kumar Bhaskar Varma Sanskrit and Ancient Studies University vice-chancellor, Dipak Kumar Sharma, to finalize the modalities for the Class X and XII state board exam results.

Respective nine-member committees will have to submit the procedure to be adopted by each school to evaluate students subject wise for the marks assigned against the theory section of each subject. While the Board of Secondary Education, Assam (Seba) and Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) have been asked to provide all technical and official support to the two committees, the education boards will prepare the final results after incorporating the marks of internal assessment, practical examination and marks against theory portion, as received from the respective schools within July 30.

“The procedures must be based on available records in the school for each student. Respective committees may study the procedure adopted by CBSE and other boards to arrive at a decision,” read the notification.

The chairman of AHSEC and Seba informed that the internal assessment marks of selected subjects and practical examinations have already been completed. These marks are already uploaded in their ‘respective system’. “But they do not have any system of recording marks secured by the students in internal examinations conducted by the school, like Unit Test, Half yearly/Annual/Test Examination. These records are available with the schools only. Therefore subject wise evaluation of each student for theory portion is to be done by adopting some principles as decided by the government of Assam,” read the notification.

Education minister Ranoj Pegu on Friday said that both the committees will present the modalities within a week so that the results can be declared by July 31. In accordance with the direction of the state cabinet, a meeting of the different stakeholders was held on Friday to discuss the issue of exam cancellation. In the meeting, the health department apprised the prevailing Covid-19 situation in the districts, including its probable continuity, read the government notification on Saturday.

“After a threadbare discussion it was resolved that as decided by the Central Board of Secondary Education and Examination Boards of some other States, the Examination to be conducted by AHSEC and Seba for the year 2021 should be cancelled and also in order to save the academic year of students, as decided by the CBSE and other Boards, results have to be published by AHSEC and Seba in time through alternative method of evaluation,” it added.
