Online classes resume in Lucknow, witness low attendance – Times of India

LUCKNOW: Online classes resumed on Thursday in Lucknow University but only 50% of undergraduate students and 60% of postgraduate students attended. The university has been closed for the last 10 days following orders of the state government directing closure of all academic institutes due to rise in Covid-19 cases.

The attendance in postgraduate classes of science departments was good, but was low in commerce and arts.

There was 80% and above attendance in MSc Biochemistry and Biotechnology, statistics and Botany, and above 70% in chemistry, mathematics and astronomy, computer science. The postgraduate classes of zoology, geology and physics saw over 50% attendance.

However, in commerce departments, the number of PG students attending online classes was low with just 35% of students attending MCom (Applied Economics ) class , however in business administration and economics the attendance was above 50%.

In arts faculty, the postgraduate course attendance was 50% in political science, social work, psychology, medieval Indian history, but was just 20%-25% in home science and defence studies.

At the undergraduate level, the attendance was much lower as compared to PG with only science departments recording attendance of around 50 % in BSc Botany, Chemistry, computer science, while attendance in BCom and BA subjects like psychology, home science, Arabic and Sanskrit was around 34%-40%.

“It was the first day of online classes so the attendance was low in some subjects. It will gradually improve. In offline classes also, we have around 50% attendance at the undergraduate level and 60% at PG level,” said an LU official.
