On this day in 1989, batting legend Sachin Tendulkar made his international debut | Cricket News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: It was on this day 32 years ago when batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar made his debut for India in international cricket with a Test match against Pakistan. In that Karachi Test in 1989, bowling legend Waqar Younis also made his debut for Pakistan.
The match ended in a draw. Tendulkar was dismissed by Waqar in the first innings for 15.
Over the years, Tendulkar went on to register his name in history as the one of the the greatest batters of all time.

Tendulkar, who bid adieu to international cricket in 2013, remains the highest run-scorer in both Tests and ODIs. He also holds the record for most international centuries, which total a staggering hundred.
In 2019, Tendulkar became the sixth Indian to be inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame. The 46-year-old made his debut for India at the age of 16 and immediately became the country’s favourite cricketer.

He aggregated 34,357 runs across formats, which is more than 6,000 runs ahead of the second-placed former Sri Lanka wicketkeeper-batsman Kumar Sangakkara.
Tendulkar has also served as a mentor for the Indian Premier League franchise Mumbai Indians.
