NYC, D.C. Seaplane Service to Launch | Business Travel News

Tailwind Air on Oct. 14 will launch the “first-ever” seaplane service between Manhattan and Washington, D.C., the carrier announced Monday. Flights will operate out of the New York Skyport Marina in Manhattan and the Jet Aviation private air terminal at Dulles International Airport.

The schedule through Nov. 5 includes daily flights that depart New York at 9:05 a.m., as well as a second 3:45 p.m. departure on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays, according to Tailwind. The route from D.C. to New York will depart daily at 2:05 p.m., as well as at 7:25 a.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays. Departures for the flights, which will take between 75 to 85 minutes, will change Nov. 6 to Dec. 21, according to Tailwind’s website.

The route will be operated with Cessna Grand Caravan aircraft which seat eight passengers plus two pilots.

The New York-Washington route follows the carrier’s launch in August of service between New York and Boston’s Fan Pier Marina, which currently operates three daily roundtrips, as well as two roundtrips on Saturdays and Sundays.

Flights are priced individually or via commuter books with 10-, 20- or 50-ticket options. There also are corporate rates.

With the launch of the new service, Tailwind will fly to nine destinations from New York. In addition to Washington and Boston, the carrier serves East Hampton, Shelter Island, Sag Harbor and Montauk in New York; Provincetown and Plymouth in Massachusetts; and Bridgeport, Conn.
