NU to defer all PG & external exams due to Covid-19 pandemic – Times of India

All these exams were entrusted to the colleges, but they too were finding it difficult to conduct them, as many of their employees had turned positive. The university had already postponed its online papers of undergraduate courses scheduled in April last week.

“After receiving several requests, we’ve decided to allow the colleges to reschedule their exams as per their convenience and of the students. A notification would be issued by Friday evening. We will also tell their management to grant additional chances to the students, in case they miss the rescheduled exams or even the ongoing papers commenced from Tuesday to the current crisis,” vice-chancellor Subhash Chaudhari told TOI.

A delegation of Principals’ Forum had also held an online meeting with the VC in this regard recently and apprised him of problems faced by them due to the “unprecedented crisis”.

“NU told us of not asking the examinees to come to the colleges and conduct all work online. Its officials said they can take their last records and submit their exam forms online and also generate their hall tickets. But I pointed out to them that it’s illegal, as, without students’ consent, no one can fill up their forms. If NU generates hall tickets and students fail to appear in exam for any reason like he may have been Covid positive, he would be declared failed,” senior Management Council member Rajesh Bhoyar told TOI.

The senior academician added that students missing out on exams without their knowledge would take objection as they would be treated as repeaters. “They can challenge it in the high court. NU officials must understand the gravity of the situation. Since strict lockdown is in a place like Wardha, how the students could repair mobiles, or purchase a charger of headsets, or any other related thing as all shops were closed. Even staffers from many colleges are positive. In such a situation, how we would conduct the exams. NU must think about it rather than blindly directing us to conduct papers,” Bhoyar said.

Many students hailing from outside the city, also complained that they were unable to come to Nagpur for filling up exam forms and fees due to the pandemic and lockdown. “Our parents aren’t allowing us to visit the college due to apprehension of contracting the deadly disease. Moreover, there’s the problem of transportation. Who will take the risk in such a pandemic situation?” they asked.
