NIRF ranking 2022: Four from Odisha among top 100 Indian education institutions – Times of India

BHUBANESWAR: Four institutes from Odisha were among the top 100 higher educational institutions of the country. It was revealed through ‘India Rankings-2022’ under the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) released by Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Friday.

Ranking was announced for 11 categories. These were overall, universities, colleges, research institutions, engineering, management, pharmacy, medical, dental, law and architecture. In overall category, Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan (SOA) got 30th rank, while KIIT got 34th, NIT Rourkela 39th and IIT Bhubaneswar 65th.

SOA, a deemed to be university, has improved its ranking from 38th in 2020 and 37th rank last year to 30th rank this year in overall category. Similarly, Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT), a deemed to be university, has also improved its ranking from 44th in 2020 and 39th rank in 2021 to 34th this year in the overall category among top 100 institutions across the country.

The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Rourkela, which had received overall 41st rank last year against 32 rank in 2020, secured 39th rank this year. But the IIT Bhubaneswar could not improve the ranks of its previous years. This year it got 65th against 58th overall rank last year, 56th in 2020 and 46th in 2019.

Other institutions like Utkal University, a state public university, was in the rank band of 101-150, while CV Raman Global University, SCB Medical College and Hospital Cuttack and VSSUT Burla were in the rank band of 151-200 in the overall category.

In the university category, SOA secured 16th rank followed by KIIT (20th). SOA has been securing top rank among the universities of the state consecutively for seven years. It bagged 20th rank last year. Utkal University, the oldest university of Odisha, got 88th rank against last year’s 87th rank and 96th in 2020. In 2019, the university was in the rank band of 101-150.

VSSUT Burla and CV Raman Global University were in the rank band of 101-150, while Fakir Mohan University Balasore, Centurion University of Technology and Management (CUTM) and Sambalpur University were in the rank band of 151-200.

In engineering category, NIT Rourkela and SOA got 15th and 27th ranks respectively. Other institutions were IIT Bhubaneswar (36 rank), KIIT (42), CV Raman Global University (98), VSSUT Burla (111) and Silicon Institute of Technology (SIT) Bhubaneswar (161). CUTM, IIIT Bhubaneswar and GITA Bhubaneswar were in the rank band of 201-250, while GIET Gunupur was in the rank band of 251-300.

SOA this year received 18th rank in medical category, while AIIMS Bhubaneswar got 26th rank. KIIT received 30th rank followed by SCB Medical College and Hospital (44). In the dental category, SOA and KIIT bagged 10 and 26 ranks respectively.

In management category, XIM University received 35th rank followed by KIIT 48th rank, IIM Sambalpur (66) and IMI Bhubaneswar (70). In the Law category, SOA got 9th rank, while KIIT and National Law University got 11th and 25th ranks respectively.

In the research category, NIT Rourkela got 24th rank followed by IIT Bhubaneswar 37th rank, SOA 45th and KIIT 47th.

Not a single institution from Odisha secured a rank in either college category or architecture category.
