Nintendo Switch SCAM alert: Nintendo warns against fake websites

Nintendo has warned customers to be on the look out for fake retail sites.

According to Nintendo, the websites are impersonating the company’s homepage, illegally using the logo for fraudulent purposes.

The same websites are then advertising Nintendo Switch consoles for sale, but at a heavily discounted price.

Needless to say, Nintendo has told customers to steer clear of the sites, or risk getting scammed.

Fortunately, the issues seem to be more prominent in Japan, although it’s worth remaining vigilant, regardless of where you live.

“We have confirmed the existence of a fake website that impersonates Nintendo’s homepage,” Nintendo explains.

“Please be careful not to mistake it for our website, and do not purchase products from fake websites.

“The fake sites use our company’s logo illegally, making it look as if they are operated by us, and display our products, such as Nintendo Switch, for purchase if at a significantly discounted price.”

Nintendo also warns against personal data being stolen, in addition to money.

“Purchasing products on fake sites may result in fraudulent damage such as unauthorised acquisition of personal information.

“Please be careful not to mistake it for our website, and do not purchase products from fake websites.”

In more positive Nintendo news, the company has just released another N64 game for Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack subscribers.

N64 classic Banjo-Kazooie is now available to play if you subscribe to Nintendo’s premium online service.

As a reminder, Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack costs £34.99 for an annual membership, or £59.99 as part of a Family membership.

As part of the subscription, members can play a selection of N64 and Sega Mega Drive games, as well as the SNES and NES titles available in the standard tier.

Games include Super Mario 64, Star Fox 64 and Sin and Punishment on N64, as well as Zelda Ocarina of Time and Mario Tennis.

On the Mega Drive side of things, games include Streets of Rage 2, Gunstar Heroes and Phantasy Star 4.

Nintendo Switch Online also gives subscribers access to online multiplayer, as well as cloud saves.

Additional games will be released in the coming months, such as Majora’s Mask and F-Zero X.
