New Study Details Pennsylvania’s Most Popular Games – Entertainment Focus

A new survey from Play Minesweeper, conducted in honour of National Video Game Day, has uncovered the five most popular video games enjoyed by the people of Pennsylvania. Using average monthly search data on Google, the site was able to determine the games users wanted information on the most, covering cheats, walkthroughs and how to buy them.

Wisevoter recently looked at the most ‘gaming obsessed’ states in the US and ranked Pennsylvania inside the top ten, with Maryland taking top spot. It’s fair to say that video gaming is also competing with popular card games in the Keystone State. Online poker was legalised in Pennsylvania back in 2017 and, during the last six years, several leading online poker operators have launched services to PA-based players. In fact, the competition is so fierce now that most brands have to promote online poker bonus PA-exclusive deals to attract and maintain their custom. It’s a similar story in the video gaming world, where developers and publishers embark on a constant battle for market share and screen time.

However, this study suggests there are five video game titles which stand out from the crowd and pique the interest of Pennsylvanians on consoles and PCs statewide.

1. Minecraft

‘Minecraft’ stood out as the most in-demand gaming title from a search perspective. It attracted approximately 64,502 searches across Google. It’s a game that’s well and truly stood the test of time, having been launched for well over a decade now. It’s still a popular title on next-generation consoles, as well as PCs and handheld devices like the Nintendo Switch.

2. God of War

‘God of War’ is another testament to the enduring nature of some video game titles. This game was released way back in 2005. Although the video game industry is very different today to what it was 18 years ago, 42,143 Pennsylvanians continue to search for information on this game every month.

3. Elden Ring

‘Elden Ring’ is the newest game in the top five of these rankings. Released in 2022, it was one of the most successful action role-playing titles last year. Some of the major gaming sites like IGN even gave this title a flawless 10/10 review. This game gets 34,828 average monthly searches from Pennsylvanians, with gamers looking for nuggets of info on the plethora of plotlines within this multi-faceted game.

4. God of War: Ragnarok

‘God of War: Ragnarok’ was another global release in 2022. Gamers are tasked with delving deep into this role-playing game to try and prevent an all-out war by keeping the peace across nine ‘realms’. ‘Ragnarok’ was only narrowly pipped to third spot by ‘Elden Ring’, with 30,411 average monthly searches on this title.

5. Resident Evil 4

Last but by no means least, Pennsylvanians are still enchanted by ‘Resident Evil 4’, 18 years after its release. It’s true that the game was re-released earlier this year, but there’s no doubting in the longevity and immersivity of this iconic survival game. It attracts 28,346 average monthly searches from PA-based users in Google.
