Sony Playstation has published a short written preview on its official blog about what can fans expect from the upcoming next-generation virtual reality experience: Playstation VR2, also known as the PS VR2. The announced features are ‘See-Through View’, ‘Self-Broadcast’, ‘Customized Play Area’, in addition to ‘VR/Cinematic Modes’.
As for the ‘See-Through View’ feature, this will allow the player the ability to see their surroundings while wearing the headset. It is a necessary feature for players who might be worried about having accidents or hitting their surroundings while moving and playing. Switching between the game screen and the see-through screen is also easier than ever, and is a button’s click away thanks to the PS VR2’s embedded front cameras. Using the Control Center Card, players can also have access to this option or other PS VR2 setting such as adjusting the play area. (There is no recording option for the play area view).
The play area itself can also be customized with the aid of the sense controllers and embedded cameras. The cameras will scan the room, while the sense controllers will help set up virtual boundaries and warn you if you have stepped away from the boundary you have set, further ensuring the safety of the player and their surroundings at all times.
A new broadcast feature for the PS VR2 will allow players to film themselves while playing without the need for any external elements. They will only need to connect a PS5 HD camera to the console, and capture their reactions in real-time.
The last feature is a magnificent cinematic mode, where players can view the PS5 System, UI, and all digital content (Even non-VR games) on a virtual cinema screen. Content in Cinematic Mode will be displayed in 1920×1080 HDR video format with 24/60Hz and also 120Hz frame rate. While in VR mode, Content will be displayed in 4000 x 2040 HDR video format (2000 x 2040 per eye) with 90Hz/120Hz frame rate, in a 360 view virtual environment.
PS VR2 developers will be given access to the latest user experience in a new system software coming soon, while players are promised to be receiving more news and updates very soon, including launch date and additional games coming to the platform. Preorders for the PS VR2 are now available, and the console is expected to launch later this year, but a release date is yet to be confirmed.
