New Fast X Trailer Gives Jason Momoa Destructive Vengeance in Vatican City

The latest Fast X trailer is here, with a villainous Dante Reyes (Jason Momoa) promising that he will break Dom Toretto’s family, then blowing up the Vatican (“The Vatican? Wow. You guys are going to hell”).

The new trailer, which is largely dominated by Momoa, seems to be partly a callback to Fast Five, which features Herman Reyes, the father of Momoa’s character, as its villain. That film had Dom and Brian towing a safe through at high speeds, causing tons of property damage along the way. Is the bomb a sly reference to that sequence? We’ll have to see.

Justice for Han

Also making an appearance is Jason Statham’s Deckard Shaw and Sung Kang’s Han Lue, who Fast & Furious fans will know have plenty of history together.

Han kicks off the trailer at the wheel of a golden sports car, which he likens to Fort Knox. A little later he knocks tentatively at a door that’s answered by Shaw, who says, “Let’s dig some graves.”

Han, for what its worth, doesn’t seem extremely happy to see Shaw — a nod, perhaps, to the “Justice for Han” fan campaign, which refers to Han’s apparent death at Shaw’s hands. Han confronted Shaw in Fast 9’s mid-credits scene, but it’s not clear how that will play out in Fast X.

Instead, we see the two of them fighting together, with Shaw separately being told “you’re not to be trusted.”

“Hey, you’re not on my Christmas list either,” he snarks in reply.

Aside from Han and Shaw, we got another look at the touted fight between Michelle Rodriguez and Charlize Theron, which was filmed without a director, as well as more shots of Momoa as Reyes.

The end of the road

The second trailer comes with just a month remaining before Fast X’s release. It’s touted as the first part of the longrunning car series’ finale, and Fast X will surely be used to tie up a variety of loose ends.

Fast X has had a troubled development, with director Justin Lin departing over reported differences with series star Vin Diesel. Lin co-wrote the screenplay and is being credited as a producer. Louis Leterrier subsequently replaced Lin at the helm.

Fast X is currently schedule to release on May 19. Check out our full breakdown of the first trailer right here.
