Developer Criterion Games are known for their work on Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit which released in 2010 and Need for Speed: Most Wanted, which released in 2012. However, many do not know that these are also the people responsible for the next best arcade racing francihse, Burnout.
The Burnout series has a cult-like fanbase. Unfortunately, there have been no major instalments to the series for a very long time.
But the story does not end there, as new reports indicate that developers Criterion Games wish to work on a new Burnout game. In an interview with Eurogamer, Need for Speed: Unbound’s Creative Director, Kieran Crimmins talked about the developers’ future plans. He stated that he hopes to see Burnout in Criterion’s future, but as of right now, there are no immediate plans for it. He added that it isn’t the next game that they will be working on.
Moreover, Cummins stated that the two franchises that Criterion Games has the most passion for is Need for Speed and Burnout. He also mentioned that Burnout’s unique take on racing will be a great addition to today’s gaming. Cummins concluded by sharing that he would love to work on a new Burnout project and if everything goes well with the games that are already in the pipeline, Criterion will be expanding its team to work on a brand-new game in the series.
