NAAC offers provisional accreditation to DAVV colleges – Times of India

INDORE: Now that National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) is going to offer provisional accreditation, Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV) has written to affiliated colleges.

Of the 280 affiliated colleges, over 200 affiliated higher educational institutions (HEIs) of DAVV aren’t NAAC accredited as yet.

Especially after the Higher education minister of Madhya Pradesh, Dr Mohan Yadav’s recent instruction for colleges to opt for provisional NAAC certificate, DAVV has taken the onus to ensure affiliated colleges too get one.

“Although, the varsity has been encouraging colleges to opt for the assessment but at the moment DAVV has written to affiliated colleges to at least apply for a provisional certificate,” rector of DAVV, Dr Ashok Sharma told TOI.

Under the new guidelines of NAAC, provisional accreditation for colleges (PAC) will help ascertain the readiness of institutions for the final NAAC accreditation.

The last date to apply for the provisional certificate is February 24, therefore colleges are instructed to do so before the deadline, he added.

Institutions that apply for the PAC process will get feedback regarding the areas they need to work on to reach the threshold level of quality.

PAC will be valid for two years, and institutions cannot get it more than two times it will give window for the colleges to prepare accordingly, said Sharma.

Owing to poor facilities and sub-standard quality of education being imparted by the colleges, majority of the institutions have been shying away from the NAAC assessment for several years now.

The affiliated colleges fear that the poor grades might affect the number of admissions.

While DAVV has already linked the All-India Survey for Higher Education (AISHE) with the college affiliation.

Director of the college development council, DAVV, Dr Rajeev Dixit affirmed that the varsity is also planning to link NAAC accreditation to affiliation in a span of a couple of years from now.
