The Mobile World Congress 2023 Barcelona kickstarted on February 27 and many big names in tech have revealed their upcoming products at the event. At the same time, they have also provided the users with a glimpse of the future of tech and innovation through concept and prototype models. One notable name with intriguing announcements at the event was Lenovo.
Lenovo has caused a massive wave in the tech world through the showcase of the latest concept devices. The first device they showed was a smartphone with a rollable display, being developed under the Motorola banner, Rizr. The next device was also one with a rollable display, but instead of a smartphone, Lenovo showcased a laptop with the innovative feature.
This wasn’t the first time we heard about these devices as we were already shown promos of them at the Lenovo Tech World 2022 event which took place back in October of last year. The rollable tech was showcased by Luca Rossi, Executive Vice President and President of Intelligent Devices Group, Lenovo.
Motorola Rizr
Through a report from Android Authority, we were able to learn more about the Motorola Rizr. The phone in its rolled form comes in at 5 inches with an aspect ratio of 15:9 and a POLED display. The rest of the display covers the back of the phone.
When a user wishes to extend the display, they would need to press the power button twice. This will switch on the motorised system that will unroll the phone and give the user 6.5-inches of real estate, along with a 22:9 aspect ratio.
On top of that, Motorola and Lenovo are also working on wallpapers and applications which will dynamically adjust their media for when the smartphone uses its rollable features. At the moment, we do not have any price or release date details for the device.

Lenovo rollable laptop
A recent report by Verge provides us with insights on the rollable laptop concept by Lenovo. At first glance, the laptop looks perfectly normal, with a 12.7-inch display and 4:3 aspect ratio. The real change can be seen when the user flips a switch on the chassis, which allows the display to roll over and give the users 15.3 inches of real estate and an aspect ratio of 8:9. It is worth noting that both devices take up significant time when rolling and unrolling the display. Moreover, we do not know the pricing and release date details for this device either.
