Player First Games co-founder Tony Huyhn has announced that the open beta test for MultiVersus–the Warner Bros crossover fighter featuring Shaggy, Batman, and more–will cease on June 25, with the game’s full launch now planned for “early 2024.” The move comes as a surprise, as despite being labeled as a beta, many players didn’t expect the existing version of the game to be taken offline, let alone for what could be six or more months.
In the video, Huynh references the feedback received during the nearly year-long beta test as a major reason for the decision, with the “content cadence of new characters, maps and modes” cited as a specific focus going forward. The beta test has not seen a new roster addition, for example, since Marvin The Martian on November 15.
MVPs, thank you for the support during Open Beta! The feedback and inspiration has been amazing. Open Beta will close on June 25 as we prepare for full launch in early 2024. #MultiVersus will be back better than ever with new content, features, modes & more when we return. pic.twitter.com/6NOCMRDBrp

The game will still function in a limited capacity via offline modes, which will include access to The Lab training area as well as local offline matches. Costumes, characters, and other cosmetics already purchased–Founder’s Packs were available at prices up to $100–will remain available in these offline modes, and all progress and purchases will also carry over when the game launches in full.
A FAQ regarding the decision has also been posted to the game’s official website, which includes confirmation of the game’s removal from digital storefronts early next month. All players who have downloaded the game before that date, however, will be able to re-download it and play the full open beta test until the June 25 shutdown date.
The MultiVersus open beta can be downloaded on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC until April 4.
