MUHS defers PG exams; new dates to be out soon – Times of India

NASHIK: The Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS) on Friday announced deferment of the forthcoming postgraduate (diploma/MD/MS) examinations that were supposed to begin from June 24.

Ajit Pathak, the MUHS controller of examinations, told TOI the varsity would later communicate the fresh dates for the exams. This is for the second time that MUHS has deferred the PG exams, which were initially supposed to start on May 25. Later, due to the prevailing Covid pandemic in the state, MUHS had deferred the to June 24.

“There are around 2,500 PG students who would appear for the exams. They all are currently working in different Covid hospitals. The examinees have requested 45-day study leave to prepare for the exams. It is not possible at this juncture to grant them leave as they are tied up with hospitals for treating Covid patients,” MUHS sources said.

Moreover, the National Medical Commission (NMC) on April 27 had issued an advisory to all medical colleges suggesting the services of PG students as resident doctors may be continued.

“The PG-NEET exams for admissions to PG courses have been delayed and the new batch will join their respective colleges only after PG-NEET exams are held followed by counselling. Hence, to avoid any shortage of resident doctors in handling surge in Covid cases, the services of existing students may be continued till the fresh batch of PG students come in,” the NMC said in its advisory.
