Mojo Music & Media acquires stakes in catalogs of Bob Morrison and Jerry Reed – Music Business Worldwide

Nashville-based independent publishing company Mojo Music & Media has acquired a 50% interest in the publishing catalog of songwriter Bob Morrison.

The company has also acquired the writer share, artist and record royalties of writer, artist and actor Jerry Reed.

As Mojo previously owned Reed’s publishing catalog, the company says that this additional acquisition gives it “complete control of the icon’s legacy of works”.

The Morrison deal brings 76 country and pop chart singles including such standards as Johnny Lee’s Lookin’ For Love, Kenny Rogers’ Love The World Away, Conway Twitty’s Don’t Call Him A Cowboy, Highway 101’s Whiskey If You Were A Woman and The Chicks’ Tonight The Heartache’s On Me.

The Reed acquisition features 50 singles spanning three decades including Amos Moses, Guitar Man, A Thing Called Love, When You’re Hot You’re Hot and East Bound And Down.

In the three years during which Mojo has owned Reed’s publishing catalog, the company says that its creative team have landed multiple syncs including I Feel For You in NBC’s Good Girls, East Bound And Down in a national advertising campaign for Hyundai and When You’re Hot You’re Hot in summer season spots for Chevrolet.

Guitar Man will also appear in Baz Luhrmann’s forthcoming Elvis biopic.

The acquisition by Mojo Music follows the December 2021 purchase of the complete publishing catalog of Irish songwriter and producer Garret ‘Jacknife’ Lee for an undisclosed sum.

The Morrison and Reed deals also follow a series of acquisitions by Mojo over the last year with Country music songwriters including Terry McBride, Tom Shapiro, George Teren and Pat McManus.

“Bob and Jerry, through their envelope-pushing writing, musicianship and drive, helped Country music win millions of new fans.”
