Tom Cruise’s Mission Impossible 7 and Top Gun: Maverick co-actor Greg Tarzan Davis is the latest star to have commented about the actor going all in on realism with his stunts.
Misson: Impossible- Dead Reckoning Part One is barely weeks away from release. While we prepare ourselves for another movie full of Tom Cruise’s crazy stunts and action sequences, the actor’s co-stars have been one of the best witnesses to his commitment to realism. In the past few weeks leading up to the release, many of his co-stars have spoken up about their time with the actor, watching him do his own stunts, often getting to practice them along with him.
Davis on Going Through the F-18 Training by Tom Cruise for Top Gun: Maverick
Greg Tarzan Davis, who played Lt. Javy ‘Coyote’ Machado in Top Gun: Maverick, recently spoke to ScreenRant in an interview for the release of Mission: Impossible- Dead Reckoning Part One. He shared about his learnings from acting alongside Tom Cruise since his time in Top Gun: Maverick and how it helped him in the upcoming movie. Davis said,
“[I learned about] being competent in what you’re doing with the stunts. Because obviously, every film he does, he’s doing his own stunts and encourages other actors to do them. Flying in the F-18s was about the competency of being able to do it as if you were really flying F-18s all your life or something. Taking that mindset and the training aspect that he built up for us in Top Gun and applying that to Mission: Impossible made it a seamless transition in a way. But at the same time, you can’t get used to doing all of these freaking stunts! But it gets easier-ish.”
Tom Cruise, who is known to be a licensed pilot, personally designed flying courses on the F-18 for his Top Gun: Maverick co-stars. Earlier, Top Gun: Maverick’s Monica Barbaro who played Lt. Natasha ‘Phoenix’ Trace, also spoke about the Tom Cruise training course on The Late Late Show with James Corden. You can check that out below.
