If you’re looking to save some money, then you should check out the latest selection of free video games available for the weekend. And it’s a bumper week for free video games, with the likes of Minecraft, Battlefield 2042 and Akka Arrh all free to download for a limited time. Indeed, if you have a PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One or PC, then there are lots of games to choose from.
To celebrate this weekend’s Minecraft Live, the blockbuster building game is available for free from now until October 15 on PlayStation, Xbox and PC. You don’t even need PlayStation Plus or Xbox Game Pass Core.
Battlefield 2042 is also available for free on all platforms, as EA celebrates the launch of Season 6.
“Experience Battlefield 2042 – Season 6: Dark Creations and master the unknown in claustrophobic close-quarters battles,” reads an Xbox post.
“Between October 12-15, gather your squad and play free on the new map – Redacted, wield new weapons and gadgets, and unlock 100 tiers of Battle Pass content.”
UK fans will be able to play Battlefield 2042 for free until the morning of October 16. The game is also heavily discounted in case you want to continue playing after the free trial.
If you’re looking for something a little bit different to play this weekend, then you’ve got to try Atari’s Akka Arrh on Xbox.
As part of Microsoft’s Free Play Days promotion for Xbox Game Pass Core members, Akka Arrh is free until October 16.
Developed by legendary game designer Jeff Minter, Akka Arrh is a psychedelic arcade game based on a rare Atari prototype.
“A cascade of words, colour, shapes and sound flows around your turret as you desperately fight off swarms of inbound attackers,” reads the official description.
“If enemies penetrate your perimeter you need to zoom into close range combat and beat them back, adjusting to a completely different perspective in the blink of an eye. Welcome to Jeff Minter’s Akka Arrh.”
Microsoft’s Free Play Days promotion also contains charming adventure game Autonauts, which is kind of like a cross between Harvest Moon and Minecraft.
“In Autonauts you must build, create, and automate. Start by establishing a colony, crafting bots, and teaching them via scratch-style programming to build an ever-evolving autonomous paradise of agriculture, industry, and enlightenment.”
Over on PC, Epic is once again giving away a selection of free games, which are yours to download and keep.
Available until October 19, this includes Blazing Sails and Q.U.B.E Ultimate Bundle. The titles will be replaced by The Evil Within and Eternal Threads on October 19.
