Microsoft Xbox has responded to Sony’s claims about the former sabotaging Call of Duty’s releases on PlayStation consoles, if its acquisition of Activision Blizzard is approved by regulators like the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA).
Sony believes Xbox could jeopardise the PlayStation versions of future Call of Duty titles
In Sony’s observations to the remedies offered by the CMA, the Japanese gaming giants claimed that Xbox could employ various measures to make sure the Call of Duty experience on PlayStation is not up to par. This could be by raising prices for the PlayStation version, releasing versions filled with bugs, or by prioritising on the builds launching for Xbox consoles.
In a statement to Eurogamer, a Microsoft spokesperson has addressed the claims made by Sony. “Since the CMA issued its Provisional Findings, we have offered solutions which address its concerns and increase the deal’s benefits to UK players and game developers,” said the Microsoft spokesperson. “These include a guarantee of parity between Xbox and PlayStation on access to Call of Duty and legally binding commitments to ensure that Call of Duty is available to at least 150 million more players on other consoles and cloud streaming platforms once the deal closes.”

Microsoft’s response to the CMA’s provisional findings has been released, and it sheds light on the various remedies that the Redmond-based tech giants are willing to provide.
The main point of concern for rival Sony has been the console’s future without Call of Duty. To appease CMA’s claims about the acquisition’s anticompetitive nature, Xbox has offered to keep Call of Duty on PlayStation devices for the next 10 years.
Furthermore, to ensure parity between Microsoft and Sony, the company is even offering to let the latter add the franchise’s titles to its popular subscription service, PlayStation Plus.
