Microsoft Xbox April 2023 Update Adds New Power Settings and Search Improvements

Microsoft has just released details for the upcoming Xbox April system update. There are two major changes coming to Microsoft’s console, including a new, revamped search experience. The other big feature is the addition of adjustable active hours power settings.

Xbox search feature updated

Xbox users can now search for games and apps using the new search page, which has received a new look with “gallery-style” results. There are filter categories available (navigable via LB/RB) and also a new option to search on YouTube that is located within the Movies & TV tab.

Adjustable active hours power settings

Those who have switched to the Sleep power option can now adjust active hours of their console. This means that you can set when your Xbox shuts down to save energy and when it has to wake up again so that it’s ready to be used.

This is a helpful feature to save power and still have your Xbox boot up quickly when you’re likely to use it.

Microsoft says that the console draws 0.5 watts of power during shut down mode, as compared to 10–15 watts consumed while it’s active.

Xbox became the first-ever “carbon aware” console with the February update. That update automatically switched all Xbox Series consoles to shutdown (energy saving) mode as default.

Microsoft claimed that for every two consoles that switched to shut down mode for a year, it will remove the same amount of carbon managed by one tree that has been planted and grown for ten years.
